Meet the Team
Your first thoughts upon meeting us will be, “Wow, these guys are old! Except maybe that Jerry guy. He looks like he could be under 60.” We hope that by the time you leave you will have decided that age has its advantages, and that we really know what we’re doing. And incidentally, our life plans (did we really use that term?) are to continue doing this for many, many more years. We actually enjoy this stuff!
Jerry Snider
Jerry Snider is a 1988 graduate of William Jewell College in Liberty, where he earned a degree in Business Administration. He formed Snider & Talbot Financial Planning in 2007 with Richard, fulfilling a lifelong dream, after a 23-year career at Hallmark Cards.
Jerry is one of the area’s great outdoorsmen. He regularly risks life and limb on his annual Alaska trips, and has traveled to a number of other locales to pursue his passion.
Jerry is also an avid sports fan, and is really into financial and investment news. Jerry can take you into the intricate pros and cons of most mutual funds, and if he goes too far, Richard or Jim are there to save you.
Jerry and his wife Nancy live in Kansas City, North with their dog Diego and their cat, Miss Kitty, who adopted them. The Sniders have been married 33 years.
Richard Talbot
Richard Talbot is a 1977 graduate of the University of Kansas, where he earned a degree in Accounting. He, too, is a veteran of Hallmark Cards, having retired on the day of his 25th anniversary to form Snider & Talbot Financial Planning with Jerry.
Richard’s three children nicknamed him Camp Director Dick after several harrowing forced marches on childhood vacations. He puts these same skills to work on our semi-annual tailgate parties for clients, friends, and family of Snider & Talbot at the Royals Home Opener and Home “Closer” events. He’s a master organizer, and is the one who keeps us on-task, (although he’s just as likely to take us off-task with a story or two!).
Richard likes to laugh, has a snowy white beard and wears glasses. At Christmastime, children who haven’t met him before will sometimes ask their parents if they can sit on his lap. Perhaps, that is because Richard lives far north (in rural Lawson) just this side of the North Pole.
Jim Werner
Jim Werner is a 1978 graduate of the University of Missouri, with a degree in Business Logistics. He also earned an MBA in Finance from Rockhurst College in 1985. He is the rookie on the team, and went through some pretty serious hazing during his first year with the firm in 2014. Jim retired from Hallmark in 2011 after 32 years there.
Jim earned his Certified Financial Planner™ (CFP®) designation in 2017. This is kind of a big deal in financial planning circles, and he will not stop talking about it. Richard lost a rather large side bet with Jerry when Jim passed the exam.
Jim is a huge Royals fan, but then again, so is Jerry. Richard is actually a bigger fan of the Kansas City A’s, and Jerry and Jim don’t have the heart to tell him that the A’s no longer play here.
Jim has been married for 32 years, and has three grown kids. He and his wife Bonnie currently live in Parkville.
